The Mitchell Scholarship

Members of the Mitchell Scholars class of 2022 gathered today in Arlington, Virginia for their pre-departure orientation led by program director, Carolina Chavez, and US-Ireland Alliance founder, Trina Vargo. The group will depart for the island of Ireland to begin their graduate programs this fall.
Sixty guests joined the twelve Scholars later in the afternoon for the annual summer party at Hendry House. The event was generously sponsored by Ireland’s Department of Further and Higher Education and the Northern Ireland Bureau. Most of the guests were alumni, friends of the program, and their families. Those attending included the UK’s Ambassador to the US, Dame Karen Pierce; Ambassador Kathy Stephens; Eamonn McConville of the Northern Ireland Bureau; and Northern Ireland Attaché, Lyndon Hughes-Jennett.
We hope tonight’s event is the first of many social gatherings to come. Trina will meet soon with alums in Boston and San Francisco and, hopefully, we will be able to hold our annual reception in Dublin in September.
