The Mitchell Scholarship
The Mitchells spent the weekend in Northern Ireland, part of an annual tradition to give every Scholar an opportunity to visit Belfast and the surrounding area during their year on the island. The visit included another annual tradition, a tour of the peace wall murals with Queen’s University professor, Dominic Bryan. On Saturday, they visited The Home Place, the Bellaghy museum dedicated to the Nobel Laureate poet, Seamus Heaney. The group made a stop at the Dark Hedges, made famous in the Game of Thrones, and then travelled on to the northern coast to see Giant’s Causeway, a World Heritage site. Many thanks to Dom Bryan, the National Trust, and Tony McGaharan, a Belfast-based, US-Ireland Alliance friend who joined the Scholars for a day.
